›Wall thickness: WPHY fitting walls are calculated to match the pressure rating of the connecting X-grade pipe — not schedule-based like B16.9. A WPHY 65 elbow has a different wall than a B16.9 SCH 40 elbow of the same NPS.
›Bore dimensions: Identical to B16.9 — WPHY fittings are physically interchangeable but must never be grade-mixed on the same pipeline system.
›Charpy mandatory: All WPHY 56 and above require Charpy V-notch impact testing. WPHY 42/46 require it only if specified.
›CE limit: WPHY 52 and above: carbon equivalent ≤0.43 for weldability in field conditions.
›Heat treatment: Normalised, Q+T, or TMCP (thermo-mechanical controlled process) depending on grade and manufacturer.

›Natural gas transmission: Cross-country high-pressure gas pipelines. WPHY 52 to WPHY 70 depending on MAOP.
›Crude oil trunk lines: Long-distance oil pipeline systems. WPHY 52 to WPHY 65 typical.
